Lima, August 31 (HS). Aarti opened India's medal account by winning a bronze medal in the women's 10,000 meter walk event with a national record time at the World Under-20 Athletics Championship here on Friday night. On the last day of the competition, 17-year-old Aarti finished third with a time of 44 minutes 39.39 seconds.
Chinese race walkers Zhuoma Baima (43:26.60) and Meiling Chen (44:30.67) won gold and silver respectively.
Earlier on Thursday night, Pooja Singh rewrote the national Under-20 women's high jump record to enter the final after finishing ninth in the qualification round.
Pooja, 17, who hails from Haryana's Fatehabad district, cleared the height of 1.83m to finish second in qualification round Group B and ninth overall and qualify for Saturday's final.
Pooja, the daughter of a mason, broke her own national under-20 record of 1.82 metres set in Korea last year to win the silver medal at the Asian Under-20 Championships.
