First sub-junior men, women inter-zonal championships from Sunday | News India

New Delhi, August 31 (HS). The first Sub Junior Inter-Zone Championship 2024 is starting from September 1. Ranchi will host the Sub Junior Men's Inter-Zone Championship and Narwana of Haryana will host the Sub Junior Women's Inter-Zone Championship 2024.

According to a Hockey India (HI) release, at the first Hockey India Sub Junior Men's Inter-Zone Championship 2024, six teams have been divided into two pools, Pool A comprises North Zone, South Zone and SAI, Pool B comprises East Zone, West Zone and Academy.

The seven-day tournament will be held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium, which has successfully hosted international tournaments in the past, giving young hockey players an opportunity to experience an international venue.

Meanwhile, the 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Women's Inter-Zonal Championship 2024 in Narwana will feature North Zone, East Zone, SAI Bal in Pool A and South Zone, West Zone, SAI Power and Academy in Pool B.

Speaking about the event, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, “We are delighted to introduce the Hockey India Sub Junior Men's and Women's Inter-Zonal Championships in the national hockey calendar. This will be an important event for aspiring hockey players, and will form a road map for them to move forward in junior tournaments. Through this tournament, we not only want to give the youth a chance to shine, but also make them adept at competitive hockey from an early age.”

Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also emphasised the importance of this tournament. He said, “We are extremely happy to launch this wonderful tournament for sub-juniors. This initiative is a part of our grassroots development programme which will ensure that more players get recognition and we are able to discover talent at an early age. Special mention to Hockey Jharkhand and Hockey Haryana who have taken the responsibility of hosting these championships. We want the young players to have a great experience during these events.”
