Ban on Pakistan Hockey Players: Three Pakistani hockey players and a physiotherapist have been banned for life for trying to flee to European countries without the knowledge of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. Actually, the reason for this is the financial condition of Pakistan Hockey as well as the delay in getting allowances to the players.
PHF General Secretary gave information
PHF secretary general Rana Mujahid confirmed today (August 29) that, 'Murtaza Yaqoob, Ihtesham Aslam and Abdur Rehman along with physiotherapist Waqas went to Netherlands and Poland for the Nations Cup last month.'
PHF's financial situation is very challenging
The former Olympian admitted that the financial situation of the PHF was very challenging. The players faced delays in the payment of their travel allowances and daily subsistence, but this cannot be a reason to quit the national team and disgrace the country.
Disappointing news for Pakistan hockey team
Mujahid said, 'When the team returned home, when we announced the training camp for the Asia Champions Trophy, all three told us that they would not be able to attend the camp due to domestic problems. We came to know that he went to Holland (Netherlands) once again on the Schengen visa issued to the team and sought political asylum there, this was a matter of disappointment for the Pakistan hockey team, which will make it difficult to apply for visas in European countries for international competition.'
Home and Foreign Ministry asked to take action
He said, “The PHF has approved the lifetime ban. The PHF president has been asked by the Pakistan Consulate to make efforts to bring him back for disciplinary action.” Meanwhile, Mujahid said, “We have already informed the Home and Foreign Ministries for further action.”
