This record was made on the second day of the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open Tennis Tournament. The longest match in the history of the US Open was played between Daniel Evans and Karen Khachanov. The first round match was played for five hours and 35 minutes which is a tournament record.

This is the longest match at the US Open since the tiebreaker was introduced in 1970. The previous longest match record at the US Open was held by Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang. The match played in 1992 lasted a record five hours and 26 minutes. Sweden's Edberg defeated Chang 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the US Open 2024 round. Britain's Evans was trailing 0-4 in the fifth and final set of the match but he made a comeback and won six games in a row. A 22-shot rally was played between Evans and Khachanov on the final point.

The record for the longest match in the overall international tennis Grand Slam was set at Wimbledon, played at the All England Club. In 2010, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut played a match that lasted 11 hours and five minutes. Incidentally, it was a first round match of the tournament. Isner eventually won by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3), 70-68.
