Kathmandu, 26 August (HS). Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government is going to file a writ to reconsider the Supreme Court's decision in which the court had decided to increase the salary scale of government employees. The government is going to request to withdraw this decision, expressing its inability to implement the court's decision in view of the country's economic situation.

The Supreme Court had ruled this month that the government should adjust and increase the salaries of first, second and third class civil service employees. On August 10, the Supreme Court had ordered that the basic salary of the first, second and third class gazetted civil service employees should be adjusted to the same level as that of the officers of the army and other security bodies.

The joint bench of Supreme Court Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma and Justice Sunil Kumar Pokhrel had ordered to increase the salary of the employees. On that basis, the government held several meetings to increase the salary of the employees. Later, the government came to the conclusion that at this time the government is incapable of increasing the salary of government employees.

Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Vishnu Rimal said that this proposal was also discussed in the cabinet meeting held last week. According to Rimal, after considering all aspects, the government has come to the conclusion that it is not possible to increase the salary at present. He said that soon the Attorney General on behalf of the government will file a review petition in the Supreme Court and request the court to withdraw its decision.

Govind Khanal, who was Associate Attorney General in the previous Prachanda government, Santosh Sharma, who was Deputy Attorney General, including Padam Bahadur Karki, Vimala Regmi, Yuvraj Mahat, Chapala Pokhrel and Prakash Gaumat had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a hike in the salaries of civil service employees working in gazetted first, second and third class. The writ claimed that the salaries of officials of security agencies of the same ranking are higher than those of civil servants.
