New Delhi, August 26 (HS). Sweden's Mondo Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record by jumping 6.26 meters in the second attempt at the Silesia Diamond League meeting on Sunday.
It was the 10th time Duplantis broke the world record, having cleared 6.25m while retaining his Olympic gold medal in Paris earlier this month, and the third time this year he has broken his own record.
The 24-year-old Duplantis had the Stade de France crowd dancing to his tune at the Paris Olympics when he broke the world record for the ninth time, and there was always a feeling that Duplantis' work was far from finished.
On Wednesday Duplantis cleared 6.15m to win in Lausanne but at the Silesia Stadium in Chorzow, after being outpaced by six metres, he raised the bar to 6.26, his first attempt being poor, which dampened expectations, but the Swede then recovered and made history.
Olympic silver medallist Sam Kendricks of the United States cleared 6.00 metres but failed to clear 6.08 metres to finish second, while Paris bronze medallist Emmanuil Karalis of Greece cleared six metres to finish third.
