New Delhi, August 26 (HS). India's top 3000m steeplechaser Avinash Sable finished a disappointing 14th at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday.
The 29-year-old reigning Asian Games champion clocked 8 minutes 29.96 seconds to finish last. Seventeen runners finished the race while three could not finish.
Reigning Olympic and world champion El Bakkali Soufiane (8:04.29) of Morocco won the race, while Amos Serem of Kenya (8:04.29) and Samuel Firewu of Ethiopia (8:04.34) finished second and third respectively. The top six finishers at the Paris Olympics earlier this year competed here.
At the Paris Diamond League last month, Sable broke her own national record to finish sixth with a timing of 8:09.91.
He had become the first Indian man to qualify for the Olympic 3000m steeplechase final during the Paris Games earlier this month, where he finished 11th with a time of 8:14.18.
