According to information released in media reports, the maximum number of people left Pakistan during the reign of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from 2013 to 2018. The exodus of workers and skilled workers has increased the concern of the Pakistani government.
Most people left Pakistan in 2015
According to the report, a total of 95,56,507 people have left Pakistan in the last 17 years. The highest number of people who left Pakistan in 2015 was 9 lakh. However, by 2018, a decline of up to 60 percent was observed.
Migration increased due to the pandemic
Nearly 8 lakh people left the country in 2022 and 2023 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Migration among skilled professionals has also increased by five per cent. Most of those leaving the country in the last two years have been blue-collar workers and the working class.
Number of Pakistani workers in UAE decreased
Most Pakistanis migrate to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Qatar in search of better opportunities. But after Covid, this trend has seen a significant change. There was a sharp decline in the number of Pakistani workers in the UAE and a significant increase in Saudi Arabia. After Covid, Pakistanis are migrating to the UK, Iraq and Romania.
