Lucknow, 24 August (HS). Thaddi festival will be celebrated on Sunday in the families of Sindhi community in Uttar Pradesh by giving the message of family enlightenment. Dishes were prepared on Saturday by the Sindhi community in Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur and across the state to celebrate the festival.
Nanak Chand, former vice president of Uttar Pradesh Sindhi Academy, said that the word Thaddi means cool in Sindhi language. The entire Sindhi community celebrates this festival with great joy on the eighth day of Rakshabandhan. Thousands of years ago, the idol of Mother Sheetla Devi was found during the excavation of Mohenjodaro in Sindh. It is believed that the festival of Thaddi is celebrated every year to worship her till date.
He told that a day before this festival, different types of dishes are made in every Sindhi family. On the second day, first of all, all the members of the family gather near the water source and do the ritualistic worship of Mother Sheetla Devi. In which the small children of the house are specially included, prayers are offered for them that they remain cool and stay away from the wrath of the mother. During this, these lines are sung “Thari Mata Thari, Pahinje Bachanan Khe Thari, Mata Ae Bhi Thario Thi, Haane Bhi Thaari”. After that, the stove is not lit in the houses for the whole day. Today is that day, the dishes have been prepared and now the stove will not be lit. Now on the festival, only cold food prepared on this day is eaten.
Senior citizen of Sindhi community in Varanasi, Leela Ram told that Thaddi festival will be celebrated on Sunday, 25th August. On Saturday, dishes have been prepared in Sindhi families, which is called Thanda. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm especially among women in Sindhi families to celebrate the festival. The whole family will participate in it.
