Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in the news every day for some reason or the other. The latest case is related to broadcasting rights. Actually, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was expecting to get a good amount by selling the streaming rights of international domestic matches, but the opposite happened. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received only half of the reserve price for selling streaming rights.

Huge loss to PCB

The PCB set an initial reserve price of PKR 3.2 billion for the streaming rights of the Pakistan region, but only received PKR 1.72 billion. In this way, the Pakistan board has lost about 1.48 billion Pakistani rupees. Under these broadcast rights, the 2024-25 season includes 11 Test matches, 26 ODIs and 24 T20I matches. ODIs include some bilateral series and some triangular tournaments.

PCB under stress

Without sharing any figures, the PCB claimed that these streaming rights have been sold at more than double the price than before. According to the information, the PCB recently sold its Pakistan region broadcasting rights to ARY and Tower Sports Alliance for a period of 28 months. After this, they claimed that they have been sold at a higher price than the previous contract.

Contrary to the claims of the PCB, no major foreign broadcaster has shown interest in buying the broadcasting rights of Pakistan's matches. This clearly shows that Pakistan Cricket and its board are really having trouble raising money. This is an even more worrying situation for Pakistan as they want to host the Champions Trophy next year.

PCB is not getting broadcasters

Meanwhile, the PCB is facing trouble in getting a broadcaster in England for the October-November Test series between Pakistan and England. Major broadcaster Sky Sports is not showing any interest in buying the rights of the matches of this series, which may increase the problems of the PCB. However, the Pakistan board is hopeful that it will soon get a broadcaster from England.
