Melbourne, August 24 (HS). Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will not be able to play in the T20 series against Scotland next month due to a calf strain during training last week.

Riley Meredith, who played his last five T20 matches in 2021, has been included in the squad. Hazlewood's injury is described as minor and he is expected to be available for the T20 and ODIs against England in September, although selectors may take a cautious approach ahead of a busy home summer that includes five Tests against India.

Meredith has played for Somerset in white-ball cricket during the English season. He took 14 wickets at 22.78 in the T20 Blast and six wickets in three One-Day Cup games, including 4 for 27 against Middlesex at Lord's, where Somerset reached the final. He has taken eight T20I wickets, playing against New Zealand and the West Indies three years ago.

Hazlewood is the other fast bowler to be dropped from the squad, with Spencer Johnson suffering a side strain while playing in the Hundred.

The fast bowling attack for the Scotland series will now include Meredith, Xavier Bartlett, Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis, along with all-rounders Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie and Marcus Stoinis and likely captain Mitchell Marsh. Spin duties will be handled by Adam Zampa and uncapped Cooper Connolly.

Australia will fly to Scotland on Monday, with the first T20I match scheduled for September 4 in Edinburgh.

Australia's T20 squad for the series against Scotland is as follows-

Mitchell Marsh (captain), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wicketkeeper), Riley Meredith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
