Kathmandu, 23 August (HS). A bus going from Gorakhpur to Nepal fell into the Marsyangdi river at a place called Ainapahara in Tanahun on Friday. The rescue team that reached the spot has recovered the bodies of 14 bus passengers. Although Nepal Police has released the list of all 40 passengers, driver and co-driver in the bus, the names of 14 dead have not been identified. 16 injured people have been rescued from the spot and admitted to the hospital. A helicopter of the Nepal Army has been sent to the accident site with a medical team.
Kaski Police spokesperson and DSP Shailendra Thapa said that 40 passengers from Gorakhpur, India had come to Pokhara by bus (UP-53 FT 7623) two days ago. All these people stayed at Majheri Resort in Pokhara. They stayed at the resort on Wednesday and Thursday and left by bus for Kathmandu on Friday morning. On Friday morning, this bus going from Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi river from a place called Ainapahara in Tanahun. As soon as the news of the accident was received, the rescue team reached the spot and started removing the passengers from the bus stuck on the river bank. Kaski Police Chief SP Mohan Thapa said that till 1 pm, the bodies of 14 people have been removed. 17 injured people have been rescued and sent to the hospital.
Tanahun DSP Deepak Kumar Rai said that the number of dead and injured may increase as rescue operations continue. According to him, there were 43 people on board the bus, including the driver and co-driver. These include Anant Omkar Ingle (58), Seema Anant Ingle (45), Suhas Rane (49), Chandana Suhas Rane (17), Sunil Jagannath Dhande (62), Neelima Sunil Dhande (52), Sarla Tulsiram Tayde (58), Asha Samadhan Baviskar (52), Rekha Prakash Sukhade (52), Vilas Rane (53), Sudhakar Kathiram Javale (56), Rohini Sudhakar Javale (48), Vijaya Karu Javale (59), Bharti Prakash Javale (52), Sandeep Rajaram Sarode (52), Pallavi Sandeep Sarode (42), Gokarni Sandeep Sarode (23), Hemraj Rajaram Sarode (56), Rupali Hemraj Sarode (50), Anup Hemraj Sarode (25), Ganesh Pandurang Bharambe (31), Sulabha Pandurang Bharambe (60), Pari Ganesh Bharambe (..), Sharda Suresh Patil (50), Neelima Chandrakant Javale (46), Dnyaneshwar Namdev Bonde (60), Asha Pandurang Patil (63), Saroj Manoj Bhirud (54), Pankaj Bhagwat Bhangale (42) ), Varsha Pankaj Bhangale (39), Praveen Pandurang Patil (52), Avinash Bhagwat Patil (55), Anita Avinash Patil (44). Apart from these, there is also bus driver Murtija and conductor Ramjeet. All the tourists traveling in the bus are said to be from Maharashtra.
DSP Deepak Rai said that a team of 10 divers from Nepal Police and Armed Police have been sent into the river to search for the 13 missing passengers of the Indian bus. The bus is stranded on the banks of the river.
According to Nepal Army spokesperson Gaurav KC, Army helicopter MI-17 has been dispatched to the accident site along with a medical team. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has released a helpline number +9779851107021 for information about the accident on its official X account this morning.
