New Delhi, August 23 (HS). Sri Lanka will host New Zealand for a two-match Test series during the presidential election next month. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board gave this information on Friday. New Zealand last visited Sri Lanka in 2021
The board said the first Test will start in Galle on September 18, but there will be a rest day on polling day on September 21. The final match will also be played in Galle from September 26. New Zealand's last tour of Sri Lanka was in August 2019, when it drew the two-match Test series with the hosts.
The presidential election next month is the country's first since it declared a sovereign default in 2022 during an unprecedented economic crisis.
Then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was forced to step down after huge crowds of angry Sri Lankans stormed his premises following months of protests over shortages of food, fuel and medicines.
