Prime Minister Modi has arrived in Kiev on a one-day visit. This is a historic visit. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 30 years ago. This visit will be based on the recent high-level talks between the leaders.
Talking to reporters in Poland before his visit to Ukraine, Modi said that he intends to discuss the war. As far as India is concerned, it is being very cautious about its relations with the two warring countries. Russia remains an important partner of India. Modi visited Moscow last month. Now his visit to Ukraine is also being seen as an initiative for a peaceful solution to the war between the two countries.
Several leaders of countries supporting Ukraine, including former US President Joe Biden, have visited Kyiv since then. Modi's visit is the highest-profile wartime visit by a leader of a country with a neutral stance on the conflict.
The Indian Foreign Ministry says that India's position on the Ukraine conflict is that only diplomacy and dialogue can resolve the conflict and lead to lasting peace. India believes that lasting peace can only be achieved through options acceptable to both sides and dialogue is essential for this. For this, India continues to engage with all stakeholders.
