The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) rejected the appeal of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on August 14. Now CAS has given the reason for rejecting the appeal in this case. CAS emphasized in its decision that players have to take care of their weight themselves. The rules are the same for all players.
The court said this in its decision
CAS said in its detailed order, 'Vinesh participated in this weight category voluntarily. She already knew all the rules and conditions. Her weight had increased not due to any external factor or interference but due to her own mistake. That is why the court took this decision and rejected Vinesh's appeal.
'Vinesh did not have time'
The court further said in its decision, 'The applicant is an experienced wrestler, who has participated in competitions earlier also following the rules. In such a situation, there is no evidence to prove that she did not understand the rules. She also made a proper plan to lose weight. But she did not have enough time to lose weight. It is not that she could not lose weight due to any other reason.
The court raised this issue
In its decision, CAS also expressed concern over the law of disqualification. They said that if a player is disqualified before a match, he should be excluded from that round, not from the entire tournament. This punishment is very harsh. In such a situation, these rules should also be discussed.
Let us tell you that Vinesh was disqualified before the women's 50 kg freestyle final. After this she appealed. After three adjournments, the court gave its verdict. In her appeal, Vinesh demanded that she be awarded the silver medal jointly with Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez.
