Maldives praised India: After getting a setback from Indian tourists, Maldives is now constantly trying to improve relations. Maldives, which was getting closer to China some time back, is now praising India.
Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Jameel praised India at a ceremony associated with the 78th Independence Day. He said that India has emerged as the largest and most diverse democratic country in the world, which is an inspiring example for many countries including his country. Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between Maldives and India, he said that it is embedded in their people and has been strengthened through our active bilateral engagement.
He reiterated the firm commitment of the Government of President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to strengthen strong ties between our two countries for the mutual benefit of our people.
Relations have improved recently following a three-day visit by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar amid months of bitterness since the swearing-in of China-backed Muizzo in November last year. Jaishankar had earlier visited the two countries on a bilateral visit earlier this month. Muizzo had earlier visited New Delhi in June to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new government.
