New Delhi, August 17 (HS). Bangladesh has suffered a major blow ahead of the two-match Test series against Pakistan as its regular opener Mahmudul Hasan has been ruled out due to a back injury. The BCB has not yet announced a replacement for Mahmudul.
“We have received a mail about Mahmudul stating that he has suffered a right groin injury and as a result, he is being rested for three weeks,” BCB head physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed to Cricbuzz on Saturday.
Mahmudul, who was part of the Bangladesh A team that played against Shaheens in Islamabad before joining the Test squad, suffered an injury while fielding and as a result could not bat in the second innings. The right-handed batsman looked in good form, scoring 65 in the first innings against Shaheens. He also scored 69 and 65 in the four-day matches played against Shaheens as part of the High Performance Unit.
The first Test will be played in Rawalpindi from August 21 while the second Test will be played in Karachi from August 30. Bangladesh is heading to Islamabad from Lahore after finishing a three-day practice session on Saturday. The team arrived in Pakistan early to get familiar with the conditions and better prepare, which could have been disrupted due to political unrest in the country.
