Dhaka, August 15 (HS). A United Nations team will visit Bangladesh to investigate the violence that took place in protest against reservation and the death of a large number of protesters.
In a information released by the United Nations on Wednesday, it was said that a team will soon visit Bangladesh to investigate the killing of protesters in connection with the violence in Bangladesh.
“UN human rights chief Volker Turk spoke to Bangladesh's chief adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus over the phone on Wednesday. A UN team will visit the country to investigate (the killings),” Mohammad Yunus, chief adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, wrote on X.
Bangladesh was plunged into chaos last week after Prime Minister Hasina resigned and fled to India, following which the military took power on August 5. Earlier, more than 500 people were killed in anti-government protests.
The UN human rights chief said a UN-led inquiry would be launched very soon to investigate the killing of protesters during the student revolution, Yunus, who was sworn in as chief adviser on August 8, said in a post on X.
