Ganesh Chaturthi 2024: The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is an important and major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, which is celebrated across the country but is especially popular in Maharashtra. The idol of Bappa is installed on Ganesh Chaturthi and after 10 days it is immersed to bid farewell to Bappa.

When is Ganesh Chaturthi?

According to the Panchang, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi begins on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrava month and ends on the fourteenth day. Devotees celebrate Ganesh Utsav with great pomp for 10 days.

Ganesh Utsav begins a day before Hartalika Teej and ends on Anant Chaturdashi. The ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on September 7 this year in 2024 and end on September 17. Vishwakarma Puja is also performed on this day.

Why is Ganesh festival popular in Maharashtra?

Ganesh Utsav is most popular in Maharashtra as its origin is linked to the Maratha Empire. It is said that in the 17th century, Chatrapati Shivaji started celebrating Ganesh Utsav to promote nationalism and unity among his people.
