Varanasi, August 11 (HS). Lalit Upadhyay, a member of the Indian hockey team that won bronze medal in Paris Olympics, attended the golden court of Shri Kashi Vishwanath on Sunday. Lalit offered the medal to Baba's holy Jyotirling in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and performed Abhishek and Puja amid chanting of Vedic mantras. His father and brother were also present during this time. Lalit was greeted with blowing of conches in the temple premises. The temple administration encouraged Lalit by garlanding him.
Before this, thousands of young fans welcomed Lalit at Babatpur airport by forming a human chain and waving the tricolour. From the airport, Lalit left for Baba Vishwanath temple along with his family and young players. On the way, fans and sports lovers welcomed Lalit by showering flowers on him. During this, on seeing his mother in the crowd, Lalit stopped the convoy, touched his mother's feet and put the medal around her neck. Seeing the love of thousands of youths and players for Lalit, his mother looked delighted.
When Lalit returned home after offering prayers at Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple, his sisters performed aarti and fed him sweets. During this time, the entire village and neighbours were also present outside Lalit's house to welcome him. The youth shouted slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' on Lalit's arrival in the village. They danced to the music of the band. They made Lalit sit on their shoulders.
