Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice resigns, calls full court session without discussing with government

Bangladesh Violence: Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice Obedul Hasan has resigned. The protesters surrounded the Supreme Court and gave an ultimatum of one hour. After which the Chief Justice announced his decision. Talking to journalists in the Supreme Court premises, the Chief Justice said that in view of the current situation in the country, I have decided to resign keeping in mind the safety of the judges of the Supreme Court, High Court and lower courts.

The protesters demanded

After Sheikh Hasina, now all the judges including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court have become the target of the protesters in Bangladesh. The movement for reservation in Bangladesh later turned violent and due to this violent protest, Sheikh Hasina had to resign from the post of Prime Minister and flee the country. On the other hand, the students demanded the resignation of all the judges including Chief Justice Obedul Hasan, who are now targeting the Supreme Court. Hundreds of students surrounded the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Justice. After resigning, the Chief Justice left the premises.

Why did the students get angry at the Chief Justice?

The Chief Justice called a full-court meeting without consulting the new interim government, which angered the students. The protesters allege that the judges of the court are part of this conspiracy. The full-court meeting was cancelled when the situation became tense. But the protesters did not agree and continued to gherao the Supreme Court. The students gave the Chief Justice one hour to resign.

After the violent movement in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina left the country and now Mohammad Yunus has taken power. An interim government has been established in Bangladesh, in which Mohammad Yunus is playing a leading role. He took oath on Thursday.
