Given the extensive improvements made by Indian Railways in recent years, people in India often prefer train travel for long distance travel. About 2.5 crore passengers travel by train every day in India. Indian Railways has established various rules for passengers traveling by train, including specific rules for middle berths. Passengers using the middle berth should be aware of these rules to ensure a comfortable journey.
Sleeping is allowed only during prescribed hours
Indian Railways coaches have many sections for passengers. In normal third AC and sleeper coaches, a section generally has six seats with two middle berths. The middle berth can be opened only at sleeping time. During the day, passengers seated on the middle berth usually sit on the lower berth. As per Indian Railways rules, the middle berth can be opened for sleeping only after 10:00 pm and must be closed before 6:00 am. This means that if you want to sleep, you have to sit in your berth before 10:00 pm.
ticket checking time restriction
Indian Railways has implemented rules to ensure the convenience of passengers, one of which pertains to ticket checking during specific hours. Ticket Examiners (TTEs) are responsible for checking tickets in trains. As per railway rules, TTEs cannot check tickets between 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. If this rule is not followed then action can be taken against TTE.
These rules are necessary for peaceful and uninterrupted travel for passengers using the middle berth. Being aware of these rules will help travelers plan their journey more effectively.
