Brazilian pair Ramos-Lisboa won gold in women's beach volleyball

Paris, August 10 (HS). World number one pair Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa of Brazil on Friday won the women's beach volleyball gold medal at the Paris Olympics by defeating Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandi Wilkerson of Canada in a thrilling three-set final.

The Brazilian pair won their seventh consecutive match, 26-24, 12-21, 15-10 at Eiffel Tower Stadium, while Humaña-Paredes and Wilkerson won Canada's first Olympic medal in women's beach volleyball.

After struggling from the lucky loser round to the final, the Canadians surprisingly took an 8-2 lead in the first set but the undefeated Brazilian pair came back to level at 17-17. The two teams then tied at 24-24 before Silva Ramos and Santos Lisboa scored two consecutive points to take the first set.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson surged ahead at 10-10 to close out the second set with an 11-2 lead and force a tiebreaker, where the Brazilians took a 5-2 lead and never looked back.

Earlier on Friday, Switzerland's Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner won the bronze medal by defeating Australia's Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Talikwa Clancy 21-17, 21-15.
