A major update has emerged in the case of Vinesh Phogat at Paris Olympics 2024. As part of the update on Vinesh Phogat's petition against disqualification, the Sports Court said that a decision on the case could come before the end of the Olympic Games.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports accepted the appeal
After being disqualified ahead of the women's 50kg final at the Paris Olympics, Vinesh Phogat appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where her appeal was accepted. After this, the Indian wrestler's hopes of winning an Olympic silver medal are still alive. Vinesh was knocked out of the final as her weight was just 100 grams more, a technical problem that not only cost her the gold medal but also meant she would return home without a medal, as athletes were disqualified for medals.
What information does CAS provide?
CAS issued a statement on Friday. The statement said, 'Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat filed an application in CAS and Hawk Division on CEST. In this petition, she had demanded a hearing on the decision taken against her before the final match of the women's freestyle 50 kg weight category at the Olympic Games. Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the United World Wrestling (UWW) Championship for failing to cut weight.
