Cuban male wrestler Lopez Nunez won the gold medal by participating in the 130 kg Greco-Roman wrestling of the Paris Olympics. 41-year-old Lopez has been wrestling for the last 20 years and created history by winning the gold medal in his category for the fifth time in a row in the last five Olympics.
No Greco-Roman wrestler has ever won five consecutive Olympic golds. As soon as his final bout was over, Lopez got emotional and kissed the wrestling mat and left his shoes there. With this, he also retired from wrestling. In wrestling, when a wrestler retires, he gives up his shoot matches. Interestingly, after winning gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Nunez has not participated in any championship so far. He stepped on the mat without any preparation.
