In an emotional social media post, she remembered her mother and wrote that she was heartbroken. Earlier, wrestler Vinesh had appealed to the Sports Tribunal to jointly award the Olympic silver medal. A decision on her appeal is expected today. However, even before this decision, Vinesh Phogat had surprised millions of her fans by announcing her retirement.

Let us tell you that Vinesh won the semi-final match against her opponent by a margin of 5-0 and became the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Olympic final. However, she was disqualified from the final match for being only 100 grams overweight, after which she appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She asked for a silver medal for this event.

Vinesh, a 29-year-old wrestler from Haryana, is a three-time Olympian, having competed in three different weight categories in all three Games. While she competed in 48kg women's wrestling at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she will compete in 53kg women's wrestling at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and in 50kg women's wrestling at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

She has won three gold medals in three different weight categories at three Commonwealth Games in 2014, 2018 and 2022. After winning the gold medal in 2018, Vinesh also became the first Indian female wrestler to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in the same year. She has also won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships in 2019 and 2022.
