Indian doctors are treating people affected by violence in Bangladesh while parents are worried about their safety. Many Indian doctors present in Bangladesh said that resources are limited and doctors are overburdened.

Many Indian doctors living in Bangladesh have decided to stay in violence-hit Dhaka to perform their duty to save lives, while their parents are worried about their safety. Several Indian doctors present in Bangladesh said that many hospitals in Dhaka are short of resources and are overburdened due to the sudden surge in casualties. Indian doctors are driven by service and a “sense of duty” and are committed to help deal with the current crisis.

Lack of resources at a hospital in Dhaka

“We are getting a lot of patients suffering from stab, bullet and knife wounds. There is a huge shortage of resources and we are working 17 to 18 hours a day,” a doctor from Srinagar attached to a hospital in old Dhaka said by phone.

Hospitals need us: Doctors

Hours after Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and left the country on Monday, Bangladesh descended into chaos, resulting in violence that killed more than 100 people. Another doctor from Gujarat said, “Our parents are worried about our safety, but we had taken an oath to protect people's lives while completing our degrees. It is our duty to serve them in this difficult time and help the hospitals. We need it.”
