Kathmandu, 7 August (HS). A foreign national was arrested with about 7.5 kg cocaine late last night from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. The value of the cocaine seized from him has been estimated to be Rs 30 crore in the international market.
According to the Narcotics Bureau of Nepal Police, a large quantity of cocaine was recovered from a Latvian citizen who arrived at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport by Qatar Airways flight number QR 644 at around 1:15 am last night.
SSP Dinesh Acharya of Narcotics Bureau said that on checking the handbag of the arrested person, it was found that cocaine was brought in a chocolate wrapper inside the pillow. He said that the weight of the recovered cocaine is 7.665 kg, whose estimated price in the international market is about Rs 30 crore.
SSP Acharya said that the foreign national caught with cocaine is 51-year-old Ivas Valters, a resident of Latvia, who is a drug carrier. This person was paid 2000 US dollars for delivering this consignment. During interrogation, this person told that he had to hand over this consignment of cocaine to an Indian citizen in a hotel here. Based on the statement of the arrested person, the police is conducting raids in search of the gang that took the delivery.
