Riot in Bangladesh, 98 dead, indefinite curfew imposed

Dhaka, 05 August (HS). The peace loving citizens of Bangladesh woke up on Monday morning under the shadow of curfew. The government has also shut down mobile internet services. It is noteworthy that a lot of blood was shed yesterday in fierce clashes between the supporters of the ruling Awami League and the protesters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh's leading newspaper 'Prothom Alo' in a news updated on its website this (Monday) morning confirmed the death of 98 people in the clashes, firing and counter-attacks that took place across the country during the non-cooperation programme.

There is a ruckus in Bangladesh on the issue of reservation system in government jobs. The ruckus started yesterday during the non-cooperation program called under the banner of Students Against Discrimination. Activists of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League opposed the protesters involved in the non-cooperation program. Clashes broke out between the two sides. After the bloodshed, the government imposed indefinite curfew in the entire country in the evening.
