Dasha Mata fast today: The festival of Dashama is celebrated on the Dashami Tithi of Chaitra month. This time the festival of Dashamata Puja is on 4th August. Reading the story of Dashamata on this day gives ten times more benefits. It is believed that worshipping Dashamata and reading the story brings happiness and prosperity in the house and the planetary position of the family members remains good.

Who is Dashamata?
According to mythology, Dashamata is a form of Goddess Parvati. Dashamata Vrat is observed to improve bad planetary positions and family conditions. On this day, women perform puja and fast to bring happiness, prosperity, peace, good luck and wealth in the family and wear a special puja thread around their neck. On this day, women worship Dashamata and Pipla and pray for good luck, prosperity, happiness, peace and good health.

Prayer
On this day, the Peepal tree, which is a form of Lord Vishnu, is specially worshipped. On this day, a married woman ties 10 strands of raw cotton, ties 10 knots in it, colours it with turmeric and circumambulates the Peepal tree and worships it. After worshipping, they sit under a tree and listen to the story of Nala-Damayanti. After this, a thread is tied around the neck and prayers are offered for the happiness and prosperity of the family. After coming home, he puts marks of turmeric and kumkum on both the doors. One meal is eaten on this day. Salt is not used in the food.

of Dashamata fast
According to the legend, once upon a time King Nal and Queen Damyanti ruled happily. One day Queen Damyanti kept the Dasham fast and tied a thread around her neck. When the king saw this, he threw away the thread. That very night Dashamata came in the form of an old woman in the king's dream and said, “Your good kingdom is gone and a bad kingdom is coming. You have insulted me.” A few days after this incident, the king's condition became so bad that he had to leave his kingdom and go to another kingdom for employment. He was also accused of theft. One day, the king was passing through a forest. Nal saw the same old woman in his dream and fell at her feet and asked for forgiveness and said, “Mother, I have made a mistake, please forgive me.” I will worship Dashamata along with my wife.

The old lady forgave them and told them how to worship Dashamata. When the Dashami date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month came, the king and queen worshipped Dashamata to the best of their ability and tied the thread of Dashamata around their neck. This improved their condition and the king regained his kingdom. Therefore, everyone should worship Maa Dashamata with devotion and women should wear the thread after the Katha Puja.
