Paris, August 3 (HS). Indian archer Bhajan Kaur was knocked out of the individual women's archery event in the round of 16 after losing to Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.
Kaur was tied at 5-5 (0-2, 2-0, 0-2, 1-1, 2-0) and the match was in a shoot-off. The Indian archer was chasing her Indonesian opponent throughout the contest. In the decisive fourth set, Bhajan hit a crucial 10 in her final shot to force a shoot-off. The 18-year-old archer lost the game in the shoot-off as she managed to hit an 8 in reply to Choirunisa's 9.
Earlier in the match, the other archer Deepika Kumari was in action during her Round of 16 match against Germany's Michelle Kroppen. Deepika won 6-4 (2-0, 1-1, 2-0, 0-2, 1-1) against her German opponent in the Round of 16 match at Les Invalides.
The Indian archer performed brilliantly by winning the first set 27-24. In the second set, Deepika hit 10, 8 and 9. While her German opponent performed consistently well and hit three consecutive 9s. Deepika made a comeback and won the third set to take a 5-1 lead in the match. The Indian archer failed to perform consistently well and lost the fourth set. However, Deepika equalized the fifth set to make it to the quarter-finals.
