Dhaka, 3 August (HS). Protests have started once again on Friday against reservation in Bangladesh. This protest is against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government. This protest had stopped after large-scale violence increased across the country and more than 200 people died. The protests that have started again are being done to demand justice for those killed in the recent incident.
More than 2,000 protesters gathered in different parts of the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, some of them chanting “Down with dictator” and demanding justice for the victims, while police officers stood in a cordon around them. Clashes broke out between police and dozens of students in Dhaka's Uttara area, while security officials fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse stone-pelting protesters.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has been facing student protests for the past month and there is no sign of the demonstrations abating.
The protests have become a major crisis for Sheikh Hasina since violence erupted on July 15. To deal with the violent demonstrations, authorities have shut down the internet and imposed a curfew with shoot-at-sight orders. Schools and universities are closed.
