Now farmers can get their crops insured till August 10

Mirzapur, 02 August (HS). To avoid loss of crops in adverse weather, farmers can now get insurance till August 10. Earlier this date was till July 31. So far 46,567 farmers have got insurance in the district. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, 10573.9 hectares of area has been insured in 2024.

Deputy Agriculture Director Vikesh Patel said that under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers have deposited Rs 1,85,29,354.9 crore as contribution for 10573.9 insured area. Along with this, the state government has deposited Rs 1,94,57,149.8 and the central government has deposited Rs 1,94,57,149.8, i.e. a total premium of Rs 5,74,43,654.6. In view of the demand of the farmers, the deadline has been extended till August 10.

District Agriculture Officer Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Yadav said that KCC holder farmers should contact the bank immediately and get insurance. Insured farmers can directly inform the insurance company on toll free number 14447 within 72 hours of the disaster. Farmers who have not got KCC can get insurance by submitting documents in the bank. 2% premium will be charged for Kharif and 5% for horticultural crops. If the sowing of the crop fails due to any reason, the insurance company will immediately give 25% of the insured amount to the farmers.

In case of damage to the crops due to disasters, hailstorm, landslides, waterlogging during the period from sowing to harvesting of the crop or damage to the harvested crops in the field due to unseasonal-cyclonic rainfall, cyclone for a period of 14 days after harvesting of the crop, the damage will be assessed at the level of individual insured farmer and the compensation amount will be given.
