Ranchi, July 31 (HS). Former Union Minister Santosh Gangwar took oath as the Governor of Jharkhand here today at 10 am. The swearing-in ceremony was organized at Birsa Mandal of Raj Bhavan. Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Sujit Narayan Prasad administered the oath to him. Gangwar replaced CP Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan has been made the Governor of Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahato, Minister Banna Gupta, MLA Kalpana Soren, Jharkhand BJP Organization General Secretary Karmveer Singh, Asha Lakra, several senior advocates of Jharkhand High Court attended the ceremony. 75-year-old Santosh Gangwar is a resident of Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh).
Born on November 1, 1948, Gangwar has been an eight-time MP from Bareilly. He has been the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Minister of State for Finance, Minister of State for Textiles and Minister of State for Petroleum. He has also served as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Santosh Gangwar has done B.Sc and LLB. He has also gone to jail during emergency. He was also the general secretary of Uttar Pradesh BJP in 1996. He is known as Vikas Purush in Bareilly. He has also been the chairperson of Urban Co-operative Bank in Bareilly. Santosh Gangwar reached Ranchi on Tuesday. He was welcomed at Birsa Munda Airport by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and MLA Kalpana Soren along with other officials. From here he reached Raj Bhawan. Principal Secretary Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni along with other officials and employees welcomed Gangwar.
