Agra, July 30 (His.). After the successful launch of the first phase of metro rail in Agra, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has geared up for the construction of the second phase. UPMRC is going to take a big step towards expanding the metro network in Agra. Next week, tenders will be opened for the construction of a 16 km long elevated metro corridor. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 1525 crore.
UPMRC Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Panchanan Mishra said on Tuesday that we are now focusing on the second corridor. Seven elevated stations will be built on MG Road. Agra College station will become the junction of the first and second corridors, where passengers will be able to easily change from one line to another. Rs 550 crore has been allocated for the second corridor in the Union Budget.
He said that our team has started work on all the stations of the first corridor, while work on the second corridor has not started yet. The tender for 14 stations of the second corridor was issued one and a half months ago. This tender was to be opened this week but due to some reason it will now be opened next week. Work will start one month after the opening of the tender. It will take 18 to 26 months to build 14 metro stations.
Transit Oriented Development (TOD) has also been focused on in the Union Budget. 14 cities have been included. TOD is being implemented in all the cities where metro is operating. The state government had given instructions to prepare a proposal for this two years ago. This proposal is being prepared by the ADA. In this, four-storey houses can be built within a radius of 500-500 meters on both sides of the metro track. With the permission of UPMRC and ADA, building owners will be able to build one to two storey houses on both sides of the metro track.
For this, the prescribed amount will have to be deposited in ADA. The map will also have to be passed. A part of the amount deposited in ADA will be given to UPMRC in the form of metro cess. Areas with a population of 30 lakh are coming under its purview but preparations are underway to implement it in all the cities where metro is operating.
