Bhubaneswar, 29 February (HS). Odisha FC will face East Bengal FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 match to be played at their home ground Kalinga Stadium this evening.
Other teams have raised the level of their game to challenge Odisha's top spot. In such a situation, they need a win against East Bengal at any cost because Sergio Lobera's Odisha had played a draw in their previous match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on home ground. Currently, Odisha FC (32) are one point ahead of second-placed Mumbai City FC (31), and have played one more match than the Islanders (15).
Although the Red and Gold brigade won their first title under Carles Cuadrat, the Kalinga Super Cup, things have not been great for them since then. They have scored 10 points out of a possible 27 in their last nine matches, but their recent 1-0 win against Chennaiyin FC will boost their confidence. East Bengal FC is two points (18) behind sixth-placed Jamshedpur FC (20) and has played one less match (16) than the Red Miners (17). The win will take East Bengal straight into the playoffs.
“Each match is like a final,” Odisha FC's Spanish head coach Sergio Lobera said in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday. When you have six matches left, every match and every three points matters for all the teams.”
“We know Odisha FC's style of play and we will show them what we can do, and make things difficult for them,” East Bengal FC assistant coach Dimas Delgado said before the match.
Let us tell you that so far 7 matches have been played between the two teams, in which Odisha FC has won 5 and East Bengal has won 1 match, while 1 match has been a draw.
