Kushinagar, 25 July (HS). The municipality and Kushinagar Special Area Development Authority made a joint plan that Gandhi Chowk of Kasya will be developed on the lines of Atal Chowk of Lucknow, but the biggest hurdle in this plan has become the shifting of electricity lines, poles and transformers. When the electricity department raised its hands crying about the budget, the municipality came forward and paid 14 lakhs for shifting. Two years have passed since the payment was made but the department has not completed the shifting work till date. As a result, the Gandhi Chowk beautification project costing 84 lakhs is incomplete. On the other hand, the cost of the project is increasing. DM Umesh Mishra has given a week's time to AC Sheeshpal Singh of the Electricity Department.
The beautification plan was made 24 months ago. If the plan had taken a concrete shape, the beauty of the square would have been enhanced and traffic would have been organised.
But despite the payment of 14 lakh rupees, the electricity department has not been able to carry out the work of pole, transformer and line shifting. Due to this, the municipal administration could not start the beautification work.
Under the scheme, the road from Roadways to Gandhi Chowk and Gandhi Chowk to Amiya Chowk was to be widened to two lanes, with dividers, pathways, Victorian lights, street and neon lights, planting of ornamental trees, etc.
The municipality had made a work plan of 50 lakhs for two-lane road, pathway, drainage work. While Kushinagar Special Area Development Authority (Kasada) had to spend 20 lakhs for installing Victorian lights. 14 lakhs was paid separately for shifting the electric line. District Magistrate Umesh Mishra said that
The superintending engineer electricity has been asked to present the facts on Thursday. A review will be done as to why the shifting work was not done and instructions will be given to complete the work by setting a time limit.
