Ballia, July 25 (HS). In a joint raid by ADG Zone Varanasi Piyush Mordia and DIG Azamgarh Range, two policemen were arrested while illegally collecting money from trucks at Bharouli check post located on the UP-Bihar border.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azamgarh Range, Vaibhav Krishna said that for some time we were getting information that extortion was being done from the trucks that come to Bharouli intersection on the border of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in Narhi area. Some policemen are also involved in it. Last night, ADG Zone Varanasi and I did a recce of it in plain clothes. The raid was conducted jointly by ADG and me. Many people were arrested in this, which also included policemen.
He told that three policemen have fled from the spot. Korantadih police post is situated ahead of Bharouli trisection, when we went there, illegal extortion was being done there as well. In all, 16 brokers and two policemen were arrested. In this case, all the nine personnel posted at Korantadih police post have been suspended. Along with this, the SHO Narhi has also been suspended. Rs. 37,500 extorted on the spot was recovered. An FIR has also been registered against eight-nine policemen.
