How did this Jyotirlinga of Somnath get its name, know its importance and the mythological story behind it

Somnath Jyotirlinga: Somnath Jyotirlinga is one of the 12 major Jyotirlingas. It is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Somnath Jyotirlinga is considered the first Jyotirlinga. It is believed that Lord Shiva resides here and all the wishes of the devotees who come here for darshan are fulfilled. Apart from this, the inauspicious effect of the moon is also removed from the horoscope.

According to Shiva Purana, once King Daksha cursed Lord Chandra for some reason that his light would diminish day by day, to eliminate the effect of which he established this divine Jyotirlinga near the Saraswati river and Lord Shiva performed severe penance at this place. Pleased with his penance, Bholenath ended his curse forever. After this, Chandra prayed to Lord Mahadev to reside here in the form of Jyotirlinga. It is believed that Lord Shiva fulfilled his prayer.
