A major tragedy occurred in China on Wednesday (17 July). A massive fire broke out in a shopping mall in the southwestern Chinese city of Zigong, killing 16 people. According to Chinese government media, a fire broke out in a 14-storey building in Zigong city of Sichuan province. Due to which many people were trapped inside the building. A video of the incident has also surfaced, in which black smoke can be clearly seen coming out of the building.
300 emergency workers arrived at the scene
As soon as the fire was reported, 300 emergency personnel and dozens of fire engines were sent to the spot. Emergency personnel carried out rescue operations and rescued about 30 people from the fire in the building. Local officials have been quoted as saying that initial investigations have revealed that the cause of the fire was construction work, which caused a spark and then the fire broke out. However, no official statement has been issued yet.
