Lakh means lakh and mandal means chakra i.e. linga. Lakhamandal means 'group of lakhs of Shivlings' and many ancient Shivlings are situated here. It is believed that the Pandavas had established lakhs of Shiv Lingas at this place. This is why this village got the name Lakhamandal.

It is said that if a dead person is brought here and special worship is done by the priest of the temple, then by taking the name of God, the dead person becomes alive. After this, the priest recites the mantra and pours Ganga water in the mouth of that person, then that person dies again and his soul gets salvation.

Although there are many Shivlingas in Lakhamandal temple, but one Shivlinga is very special. This Shivlinga has been situated since Dwapar and Treta Yuga. This Shivlinga is outside the temple. Which is beautifully carved. Devotees can see their face in this Shivling. Seeing your face in this Shivlinga is considered very auspicious. Devotees come from far and wide to see this Shivlinga. There is also a statue of a wonderful couple here, which is believed to have been established by the Pandavas.
