Araria 09 July (HS). The court of Araria Additional District and Session Judge IV Ravi Kumar on Tuesday sentenced eight convicts to life imprisonment in the case of the brutal murder of Chotu Kumar in the much talked about love affair Aarti Chotu Love Story of Raniganj police station area two years ago. Among the convicts who got the punishment are husband Ravikant Yadav along with his wife Ruby Devi.
The convicted convicts are Nirbhay Yadav, Dhirendra Yadav, Ravikant Yadav, Shashikant Yadav, Ruby Devi, Pawan Yadav, Mithilesh Yadav and Chandan Yadav. The court, in its verdict, sentenced all the convicts to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 10,000 each. In case of non-payment of the fine, an additional sentence of six months has also been ordered.
The court pronounced this verdict in a case registered in Raniganj police station, whose complainant was the deceased Chhotu Kumar's father Umesh Yadav himself, in which the informant of the case had alleged that his son Chhotu Kumar was brutally murdered in a love affair at 3.30 am on 06 July 2022. Chhotu was locked in the residential house of Dhirendra Yadav located in Barhua Ward No. 4 and beaten with sticks and iron rods as well as killed by electrocution. After the incident, Chhotu's girlfriend herself became vocal against the murder and was vocal against the accused, due to which the matter was in the headlines at the national level.
In this case, Additional Public Prosecutor Prabha Kumari on behalf of the government demanded death penalty for the brutal murder. While on behalf of the defense, senior advocates Devnarayan Sen and Mujahid Hussain pleaded to the court to give minimum punishment.
Actually the case is related to two villages Barhua and Raharia of Raniganj police station area. The conversation that started on phone between Aarti, 19 year old daughter of Dhirendra Yadav of Barhua village and 22 year old Chhotu Yadav of Raharia village turned into a love affair and the matter of marriage reached the stage of both. After the Chhotu murder case, Aarti had spoken out and said that her family members had come to know about their relationship and had called Chhotu for marriage and locked him in a room and after beating him badly throughout the night, Chhotu was killed by electrocution. The brutality done to Chhotu can be estimated from the fact that the accused had pulled out even the nails of his hands and feet. In the case, girlfriend Aarti had directly accused her brother-in-law, brother and father of murder. Aarti had also participated in Chhotu's cremation.
