Lucknow, 06 July (HS). The Yogi government of the state is running various programs to make the couples of the state aware about family planning. Under this, Sarathi Vahan and Saas Beta Bahu Sammelan are being organized. Along with this, in all the health units of the state, various means of family planning (Basket of Choice) are being distributed free of cost along with counseling.
It is the result of CM Yogi's monitoring that the “Family Planning Logistics Management Information System” (FP-LMIS) has played an important role in improving the availability of family planning services in the state. This has increased awareness towards family planning in the state.
Uttar Pradesh tops in implementing FP-LFIS
Mission Director of National Health Mission, Dr. Pinky Jowal said that the FP-LMIS system has played an important role in ensuring the availability and accessibility of family planning methods. This initiative is not only effective in the present, but will also prove to be an important tool in the management of health services in the future. He said that it is the result of CM Yogi's far-sighted thinking that in the financial year 2023-24, the state has been first at the national level in implementing FP-LMIS by Asha. At the same time, continuous initiatives are being taken to ensure access to essential means so that the beneficiaries continue to get services without any hindrance.
Dr. Suryanshu Ojha, General Manager of Family Welfare Program, said that FP-LMIS is a digital system that manages the supply chain of family planning means between health centers and other distribution centers. It was created by the National Technical Support Unit, Family Planning Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2017. It was implemented in the year 2018. Its objective was to ensure the availability of necessary means at the right time and right place, which could help in meeting local needs.
FP-LMIS increased the demand for modern tools
Since the launch of the FP-LMIS portal in the state, the problems of lack of family planning means have gradually reduced to a great extent. At present, contraceptive means are easily available in health centers. This system has helped local health workers to track the stock status in real time, which is why family planning means were distributed in large quantities in the year 2023-24 as compared to the year 2020-21. This shows a significant improvement in the health services of the state. This supply shows that the demand for modern means is increasing.
Lucknow ACMO Reproductive Health Dr. BN Yadav said that “LMIS has made our work very easy. Now we do not have to worry about the lack of family planning methods and we can provide continuous services to our beneficiaries.” According to the data of National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, the total unmet need in the state (couples do not want children and are not adopting any family planning method) is 12.9 percent, while the unmet need for interval methods is 4.8 percent, whereas in NFHS-4 the total unmet need was 18.1 and the unmet need for interval methods was 6.8 percent. These figures show that the demand for family planning methods has increased in the state.
Demand and supply data is easily available from the portal
Mohammad Kashif, the state's FP-LMIS consultant, said that through FP-LMIS, the stock status of all health centers is tracked in real time. This ensures timely replenishment. Apart from this, demand and supply data is also easily obtained through this portal, due to which there are no challenges of unnecessary storage and shortage. Also, health workers can use this portal/app on their mobile phones, for which training is being provided at every level.
