Varanasi, 06 July (HS). In Varanasi district, the course of TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) has been reduced for those TB patients who have pulmonary TB and their family members who come in contact with them or live with them, which will give them relief from taking medicines daily.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary said on Saturday that the Health Department is making continuous efforts to make the country TB free by the year 2025 and to fulfill the vision of the Prime Minister. In this series, now the contacts of TB patients will be given TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) for only three months. For this, the District Tuberculosis Center (DTC) has completed all the preparations. All Senior Treatment Supervisors (STS) and TB Health Visitors (TBHV) have been trained.
District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Piyush Rai said that earlier under TB preventive therapy, the contract person had to take medicine for six months. In such a situation, he used to forget to take the medicine every day, which will now give him relief. He said that currently there are 7566 patients of Drug Sensitive TB (DSTB) in the district. There are 4366 pulmonary patients in this. The family members of all these patients have been given TB preventive therapy for six months so far. But now all the new TB patients who will be notified, their family members will now be given only three months of therapy. The District Tuberculosis Officer said that if a person gets lung TB, then he can infect at least 15 people with TB. Therefore, there is a need to pay special attention to the family members.

If a person is coughing continuously for two weeks, there is blood in the sputum, sweating with fever at night, losing weight rapidly, lack of appetite, then he can get a free TB test done at the nearest government hospital, health center, TB unit. If TB is confirmed in the test, then treatment has to be continued till complete recovery.
