Appeal for polythene free Ganga Ghats

Varanasi, July 03 (HS). Namami Gange started the Plastic Free Ganga campaign on Wednesday on International Plastic Bag Liberation Day to make the Ganga river completely plastic free. Plastic and other polluting substances were removed from the bottom of the Ganga at Dashashwamedh Ghat and people were sworn in to protect the environment. Everyone was called upon to pay special attention to environmental protection, not to use plastic and plantation so that our future generations get pure water, air, soil and environment. Along with the appeal to keep the Ganga Ghats plastic free, cloth bags were also distributed to the people. Through handwritten placards inspiring environmental protection, the message was given that it is our collective responsibility to protect the environment. Program coordinator Rajesh Shukla said that it is possible to free the Ganga from plastic waste. Everyone has to fulfill their responsibility in this work. Ganga is not just a river, the soul of India flows in it. The responsibility of protecting it from plastic and pollution lies with the government as well as the society. If we spend our days without plastic, we will become allies of the environment. Rajesh Shukla said that every day about 2,000 metric tons of plastic waste are dumped into the world's oceans, rivers and lakes. Excessive use of plastic over the years has led to environmental pollution, negatively affecting the livelihoods of millions of people and animals. International Plastic Bag Liberation Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness about plastic pollution.
