Varanasi, June 27 (HS). The state government is running the Sant Kabir State Handloom Award Scheme to encourage weavers along with promoting the handloom industry in the financial year 2024-25. Weavers can apply till September 2, 2024 to get the award.
Assistant Commissioner of Handloom and Textile Industry Arun Kumar Kuril said on Thursday that weavers will be awarded at regional and state level. The first prize in the regional award will be 20 thousand cash, shield, certificate and angavastram, second prize will be 15 thousand cash, shield, certificate and angavastram and third prize will be 10 thousand cash, shield, certificate and angavastram.
He informed that from among the winners selected at the regional level, selection will be made for the state level award. In which the first prize will be one lakh rupees cash, shield, certificate and angavastram, second prize will be 50 thousand rupees cash, shield, certificate and angavastram, third prize will be 25 thousand rupees cash, shield, certificate and angavastram.
He informed that four categories of state level handloom award have been determined. Category-1 includes saree, brocade, dress material. Category-2 includes cotton carpet, woolen carpet, asani and dupatta. Category-3 includes bedsheet, bed cover, home furnishing. Category-4 includes stole, scarf, towel and others. Excellent and artistic samples like suiting shirting, two-meter, saree full size towel, bedsheet, bedcover, shawl, carpet etc. by weavers working on handloom should be of full size so that complete inspection of the quality of products etc. is possible. It will be mandatory to mention the complete details of the sample (warp, weft, color design and technical) etc. Those handloom weavers who have been awarded in the last three years will not be eligible for this. Under this scheme, the committee constituted under the chairmanship of District Magistrate will select the sample for the award keeping in view the qualifications like design weaving, technology and product variety etc. and colour coordination etc.
He informed that the weavers of Varanasi, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Sonbhadra, Jaunpur and Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi) districts, who wish to send their samples for the award, should submit the application form and eligibility for submitting samples along with full details on the basis of individual weaver, weaver of committee, master weaver and individual weaver jointly, four designers and weaver jointly, in the office of Assistant Commissioner, Handloom and Textile Industry, Rathyatra, Varanasi by September 2.
