ICC reprimanded Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, gave one demerit point

Kingstown, June 27 (HS). The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan for showing dissatisfaction towards his teammate during his team's thrilling win over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 24.

In an official statement issued by the ICC late on Wednesday night, it was said that Rashid has been found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to throwing a ball or any other item of cricket equipment in an improper and/or dangerous manner at or near a player during an International Match.

In addition, a demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Rashid, for whom this was the first offence in a period of 24 months.

The incident took place in the last over of Afghanistan's innings when Rashid tried to take a second run by playing a shot but his fellow batsman Karim Janat refused to take the run, following which Rashid angrily threw his bat on the ground.

In this match, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh and confirmed its place in the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time.

Rashid admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza levelled the charges.

The minimum penalty for a Level 1 breach is an official reprimand, the maximum penalty is 50 percent of the player's match fee and one or two demerit points.
