The local administration is also struggling to deal with the deaths due to the scorching heat. Local authorities recovered and cremated a total of 36 bodies on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Most of the bodies have been identified. The situation is still worrying because no family member has come to collect the bodies and neither have they been identified. There has been a worrying increase in the number of unidentified bodies found in the last three days. Therefore, the government decided to set up heat wave relief centers across the city with immediate effect.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued an alert
The move comes amid a grim warning issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which predicted extreme temperatures in the southern regions of the country. A large number of patients are arriving at Karachi's hospitals every day, putting pressure on the city's medical resources. According to an official at Karachi's Jinnah Hospital, doctors are treating hundreds of patients with heat-related medical problems every day.
Hospitals in Karachi and Sindh province have been put on alert as the government tries to reduce the flow of patients into hospitals through its 77 heat wave relief centres set up across the city.
