flood: A glacier burst in the Alps in France and Switzerland, causing massive destruction in three rivers of these two countries. In this flood, the village of La Berarde in France was completely destroyed while the village of Zermatt in Switzerland also submerged in water. The video of this incident went viral. A few years ago, a similar sudden flood in India had caused massive destruction in Kedarnath.
Following heavy rains, a glacier wall broke off in the upper reaches of France's famous ski resort La Berarde, causing water to flow downhill. Large masses of ice and debris quickly flowed back into the affected villages.
The only bridge connecting La Berarde to the world, the Intencones Torrent, also collapsed in the floods. However, there were no reports of casualties as locals and tourists were rescued safely. People stranded in the area were rescued by helicopters by emergency services.
The Bonpierre Glacier is located in the Alps above the village of La Berarde. Located at an altitude of 8530 feet, this glacier has a supraglacial lake formed due to rain and snowfall.
This lake was formed 40 hours ago. Berarde was deserted when its wall collapsed. The Mattervispa river in Zermatt village of Switzerland, 135 km away from Berarde, also suddenly flooded. Due to this, the river broke two banks and started flowing through Gandittur, due to which the direction of the water changed. Due to this, all types of vehicular traffic was stopped in Zermatt.
