IIT Kanpur will celebrate its 57th convocation on June 29

Kanpur, June 25 (HS). Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is going to organize its 57th convocation on June 29 this year. The chief guest at the convocation will be Prof. Jayati Y. Murthy, President of Oregon State University, USA and alumnus of IIT Kanpur. 2332 students will attend this convocation and awards will be given in various categories including President Gold Medal and Director Gold Medal.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur will host its 57th convocation on June 29 and celebrate the academic success of its graduating students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives, IIT's media in-charge Rucha Khedekar said on Tuesday. On this important occasion, Prof. Jayati Y. Murthy, President of Oregon State University USA (OSU) and IIT Kanpur alumnus will be present as the chief guest. Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Board of Governors (BOG), IIT Kanpur and Prof. Manindra Aggarwal, Director, IIT will preside over the ceremony.

The ceremony will be held in two sessions

The convocation for the 2332 students graduating this year will be held in two sessions, with the first session being held at IIT Kanpur's main auditorium, which has a capacity of 1250, in which medal winners will be felicitated. The second session will see degrees being conferred on students by different departments in separate lecture halls led by the Chairman of the Senate Post-Graduate Committee (SPGC) and the Chairman of the Senate Under-Graduate Committee (SUGC). The ceremony is being held in two sessions to ensure that all graduating students are able to attend this event to celebrate their academic achievements.

IIT Kanpur administration has issued a dress code for the function in which male students will wear cream coloured kurta and white pyjama and female students will wear cream coloured kurta, white churidar or leggings and formal shoes.

This will include 226 students from PhD, 457 from MTech, 842 from BTech, 165 from MSc (two years), 36 from MBA, 12 from MTech-PhD (Joint Degree), 1 from MDES (Joint Degree), 17 from MDES, 77 from MS (by Research), 40 from PGPEX-VLFM, 26 from Double Major, 89 from Dual Degree, 14 from MS-PD (MS Part of the Dual Degree), 125 from BS and 205 students from e-Masters degree programmes.

OSU's first black woman becomes president

Prof. Jayati Y. Murthy completed her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and was honored as a Distinguished Alumna in 2012. She was appointed as OSU's 16th president in 2022, becoming the first Black woman to lead the university. Prof. Murthy is a renowned leader in engineering education and is known for her focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
